At effectivesurvival.com I am providing free educational courses for friends and family on subjects I am interested in and have education, knowledge and experience in.
Why? Because most of these subjects have been lifelong hobbies of mine and when I look them up on the internet I am shocked to find so many sites which are just garbage, trying to make a buck, where you don’t really learn that much and even if you do, it may be wrong information and then if it isn’t, you still have to go all over the place to find the stuff you need and then bit and piece figure out how to use it.
How many people actually make it through the full gamut and come through with knowledge they can apply effectively in their lives and all the tools and materials required to do so? Only a small percentage.
So I’m making a site where my family and buddies can learn about these things without all the hassle and in such a way that they effectively use the knowledge in the end. Their family and friends are also welcome and anyone else who happens to find this site, go ahead, it’s all free.
The subjects I intend to make course on are:
- Wilderness & Disaster Survival
- Hiking & Camping or Expeditions
- Homesteading, Back to Basics, Off Grid living & Self Sufficiency
- Homeowners Do-It-Yourself-type activities.
The point is, do you want to read tons of books and pour through thousands of sites to find what you are looking for as regards to those subjects? These effective and free courses will not only give you the accurate data, but will also comprehensively teach you how to use it with articles, videos and educational stories and give you a step by step list of instructions to safely and effectively use the skills taught and also to get yourself properly and inexpensively set up with whatever effective tools and materials you need.
Now, making these courses is going to take a lot of work and it may just be that when you find this site they are not complete. I will work steadily, each day, on one course at a time until it is complete, then move onto the next one. I will try to reply to any questions or comments left on the site, but you will need to bear with me here if I don’t answer right away, it won’t be because I don’t care, but because I am working on my company or on my hobby of building these courses.
QUALIFICATIONS
What are my qualifications? Well I’m not going to sit here and name myself as the leading expert in all these fields or make up some fanciful stories suggesting how great I am, like I see on a lot of those ridiculous sites I’ve seen or some of the “educational” TV programs on the subjects. You almost have to be an expert yourself to be able to tell the useful stuff from the garbage. Effectivesurvival.com isn’t a show. Everything I teach here will be useful, effective and, above all, doable. My friends and family know my qualifications and that is good enough for me. I’m not trying to sell you anything here and the courses are free, though more effective than anything else I have found, short of being formally trained. If you don’t like what I teach, then feel free to leave the site and spend your time and money trying to navigate the pitfalls of minimal education at maximum expense on the net.
Don’t get me wrong, there are also a lot of sites out there which were extremely good that I found particularly useful. Throughout my courses I will give links to these sites either for their articles, videos or their tools and materials so you can study those there or get the items you need and then come back to the course and learn how to put what you got in those sites to practical, effective use.
COMMENTS
All comments are welcome and feel free to also leave constructive criticism in any comments, I don’t mind learning. But don’t bother to criticize if you yourself don’t have the experience and are only talking about something because you read it on some site somewhere or saw it on TV. Also, remember that some of the buddies and family members I am making this for are relatively young, so don’t go in to all the darn cuss words and/or prejudicial issues that are so flagrantly flung around on the net, I want to keep this site clean and won’t always have time to clean up nasty comments or check each one before they are posted. (Warning: some of my buddies are also computer nerds and competent hackers, so if a particular person continues to leave such comments, they can been tracked down, visited and perhaps given a personal test on their ability to survive rough conditions.)
But, by far, the larger percentage of people coming to this site will be those with an honest desire to fully learn about these subjects and those are the people this site is made for.
DISCLAIMER
Before going into this site read the disclaimer, which basically says that I am not responsible for your use of this information and any consequences and so on and so forth, blah, blah, blah. Basically covering my behind so if someone does something stupid or has an accident they can’t sue me.
Also, realize that some of the things taught here may not be legal in some areas, so check it out. Some may be impractical or harmful to perform, unless, that is, you are under the circumstances of the situation for which you are learning it, particularly regarding the wilderness and disaster course. For example, if you learn how to make traps to catch critters to eat in a survival situation fine, but don’t then go around setting traps just to catch some wild animal. Most traps torture the animals and, while it is one of the most effective ways to obtain meat in the wilderness, cruelty to animals is not endorsed. (Note: I am all for preserving the natural environment and admiring/protecting wild animals, but if you need to kill animals and chop down trees to save the lives of yourself, loved ones or survival companions, then you just chuck out all the social niceties and do so, don’t trade those lives trying to uphold a moral standard that doesn’t apply to the situation.)
Or, if you are having dinner with some friends and one of them happens to be pregnant and goes into labor, don’t go trying to deliver her baby yourself just because you learned about the subject here to be more prepared if you had to deliver a baby in a survival situation, take her to the hospital or midwifes house or whatever her arrangements are. Same goes for other medical emergencies or firefighting skills you may learn here. Obviously in normal life there are very good services for any of these things, so please always use your good intelligence and judgment.
THE COURSES
How do the courses work?
In each course the numbered sections and any subcategories in those sections have:
a. simple articles explaining the subject,
b. educational stories on the subject,
c. how-to videos,
d. a list of actions that will walk you through getting the needed tools, materials and anything else to get yourself set up,
e. I will tell you how to practice the skills of using those tools and materials and the data you’ve studied and
f. two different tests: 1) a typical computer generated, multiple choice test and 2) for members only, a fully comprehensive, written exam that I will grade and correct over e-mail. If you pass the written exam, you pass the course and will receive a certificate of the achievement.
Ok, enough of all that. You ready to get started? Good! Let’s go!

AN OVERVIEW OF SURVIVAL
Survival is not just living and continuing to be alive. It is an active participation in effective “doingness” that results in good health and a better existence for yourself, your family, your friends and often your neighbors. It can also include your business associates and sometimes your country and even all of humanity.
There is no such thing as bad survival. If a person is not surviving, they are dying and if they do not force themselves to consider the situation and actively do something effective to change it, they will not make it. This is just as true in normal life as it is in survival situations.
